It's Me, Oh Lord

It's Me, Oh Lord

"It's Me, Oh Lord", también conocida con el título "Standing in the Need of Prayer", es uno de los himnos gospel más conocidos e interpretados.

Esta canción está incluida en el segundo acto de la ópera "The Emperor Jones" compuesta por Louis Gruenberg basada en el drama del mismo título escrito por Eugene O'Neil, donde la canta el protagonista poco antes de morir, al final de la obra.

Letra:

It's me, it's me, it's me, O Lord,
Standin' in the need of prayer.
It's me, it's me, it's me, O Lord,
Standin' in the need of prayer.

Not my brother or my sister, but it's me, O Lord,
Standin' in the need of prayer.
Not my brother or my sister, but it's me, O Lord,
Standin' in the need of prayer.

Not my mother or my father, but it's me, O Lord,
Standin' in the need of prayer.
Not my mother or my father, but it's me, O Lord,
Standin' in the need of prayer.

Not my stranger or my neighbour, but it's me, O Lord,
Standin' in the need of prayer.
Not my stranger or my neighbour, but it's me, O Lord,
Standin' in the need of prayer.

Amazing Grace

Amazing Grace

"Amazing Grace" es un himno cristiano escrito por el clérigo y poeta inglés John Newton, publicado en 1779.

John Newton era traficante de esclavos antes de decidirse a estudiar teología cristiana.

La letra ha sido adaptada a más de veinte melodías, pero la más conocida y frecuente actualmente es la llamada "New Britain", que fue aplicada al poema en 1835.

Letra:

Amazing grace! (how sweet the sound)
That saved a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found,
Was blind, but now I see.

'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
And grace my fears relieved;
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed!

Through many dangers, toils, and snares,
I have already come;
'Tis grace that brought me safe thus far,
And grace will lead me home.

The Lord has promised good to me,
His word my hope secures;
He will my shield and portion be
As long as life endures.

Yes, when this flesh and heart shall fail,
And mortal life shall cease,
I shall possess, within the veil,
A life of joy and peace.

The earth shall soon dissolve like snow,
The sun forbear to shine;
But God, who called me here below,
Will be for ever mine.

When we've been here ten thousand years
Bright shining as the sun.
We've no less days to sing God's praise
Than when we've first begun.

Amazing grace! (how sweet the sound)
That saved a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found,
Was blind, but now I see.
